Despite missing soundcheck and arriving at 93 Feet East a mere 2 minutes before going on stage we really enjoyed our London gig last week. Checking out the reviews it looks like we weren’t the only ones…

GIG REVIEW: Dark Sparks ****
SHEFFIELD indie band Dark Sparks have a presence.
With their grungy clothes and moody demeanour the boys looked like they’re going to Kurt Cobain’s funeral as they walked on stage at East London’s 93 Feet East in Brick Lane.
But opening with their darkly brilliant track We Are Flies, any fears I had that the Sparks would be glum, out of tune EMOs wailing incomprehensibly to a scratching guitar were happily dispelled.
Their fresh, but ever so slightly moody, set was crammed full of razor sharp guitars and retro keyboards.
Flamboyant lead singer Leigh Greenwood is reminescent of a young Jarvis Cocker and his vocals convey all the pathos and melancholy of disaffected youth.
The band has the energy, confidence and cool charisma of a group who are destined for more than just playing gigs in half-empty, dingy, dark basements, stinking of stale beer and vomit.
Dark Sparks are made for better things and if it wasn’t for the poor sound system distorting the band’s wickedly electrifying sound, the gig would have been a spine tingling musical experience.
Catch Dark Sparks at their next London gig when they play at The Fly on Saturday.

We’ve been quoted in a nice little article in today’s Sheffield Telegraph about the O2 gig this Sunday.
There’s a lovely description of our ‘visceral’ sound and a quote from Leigh.

Well folks, following our BBC Radio Sheffield live session we have been invited by Mr Iain Hodgeson to be one of five Sheffield bands to play a one-off event at the O2 Academy – where our full set will be broadcast on the station!
The special show is to raise money for the sheffield children’s hospital scanner appeal – so it’s a worthy cause too!
Tickets are £3.50 from this link www.themusicweek.co.uk, or £3 from the band direct. La Folie, Pistola Kicks, Sarah Mac and The Stoops are the other acts playing.
Be great to have some of you there and just think – when you whoop and cheer you’ll be hearing your voice in thousands of homes across the city!
We’ve got an ace gig on November 9 with Biffy Clyro tour supports We Were Promised Jetpacks in Nottingham.
The gig starts at around 7pm at the Bodega Social and should be an ace one.
The really great news is we have a cheap entry guestlist for £4 (reduced from £6) so if you fancy abusing it and getting a ton of your friends in on the cheap just send us a quick message with all your names.
Can’t wait! x
