“Last night something terrible happened. I won’t tell you what it was. But when I woke up this morning it seemed, for just a hint of a moment, like everything was the same as before…”

Dark Sparks are a band of five young men from Sheffield. Musically in tune we write dark pop (master) pieces that are occasionally violent and always emotive.

Words are incredibly important and we like nothing more than firing out a tirade of bitterness to a roomful of wide-eyed faces.

IMG_4950The new line-up is in its infancy but we’re already starting to turn heads. Our recent single We Are Just Flies was played on Kerrang Radio where DJ Alex Baker declared: “They’re like an art rock horror show – I love Dark Sparks!”

We have also been making (air) waves on BBC Radio Sheffield. Constant rotation of We Are Just Flies led to a live session and interview with DJ Iain Hodgeson and the reaction was so strong that we were one of just five bands chosen to represent the city in a special showcase at the famous O2 Academy. It was a massive success and our set from the night will be played out in full on BBC Radio Sheffield in December and sent on to Radio 1 and 6Music via the BBC Introducing network.

Praise has continued on the interweb. Review sites and bloggers have declared us “deserving of a slavering fanbase”[1], “exemplary dramatic indie rock”[2] and “darkly brilliant”[3] while support slots with bands like Good Shoes, Grammatics, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Blood Red Shoes and Red Light Company have further built our profile.

Now we want to build on that. We’re recording again soon and that will be just the start. Then it’s gigs and gigs and gigs. If you don’t love us yet we’ll win you over. If you’re already into then it’s only going to get deeper. My tongue may be in my cheek but I’m definitely not laughing.

Keep listening. We promise to make it worth your while….

Leigh and the band x
